Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground Source Heat Pumps Ground Source Heat Pumps can provide space heating and domestic hot water in a large range of building types and from detached bungalows to blocks of flats and large commercial premises. Ground Source Heat Pumps cost more to install than Air Source Heat Pumps but are more efficient for the long term investment of installation.

The maintenance cost for Ground Source Heat Pumps are minimal. The scroll-compressor component is likely to have a lifespan of 15 to 25 years and this is the only main moving part which means there is no need for routine annual inspections.

Worldwide over 1.3 million systems have been installed. Sweden is the leader where 50% of all new built houses having one and Germany is rapidly catching up.

How Does a Ground Source Heat Pump Work?

A Ground Source Heat Pump is most efficient when its output temperature is as low as possible. Also it has a higher rate of efficiency when it does not have to stop-start continuously. A water storage tank might therefore need to be considered.

A Ground Source Heat Pump is very efficient when used with under floor heating as this works with half the water temperature compared with conventional radiator systems. However for domestic hot water, higher temperatures are required to prevent Legionella, as with other heating systems.

Depending on inst allation and the customer's needs, an electric booster might be needed with certain systems. This is only to warm up the last 15 degrees for ten minutes per day.

Ground source heat pumps are especially easy to install in new built premises but can also be installed into older homes and premises. Ask for a FREE consultation if you are unsure.
